Timmins Family Counselling Centre is a bilingual, non-profit agency committed to promoting individual, family, and community well-being through accessible short-term therapy services. We are looking for a bilingual Counsellor/Therapist who wants meaningful clinical work, a supportive team environment, and the opportunity to make a direct difference in the lives of clients and families in the Timmins and surrounding area.

About the role

The Counsellor/Therapist provides short-term therapy to individuals, couples, and families, with services offered to clients 12 years of age and older. The successful candidate will work independently and creatively within a supportive community-based agency setting where teamwork, flexibility, sound clinical judgment, and ethical practice are valued.

New team members receive orientation, access to clinical consultation, and ongoing support from leadership and colleagues. This position offers the stability of full-time employment while allowing clinicians to remain connected to a supportive team and the broader community.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide short-term individual therapy services to clients 12 years of age and older.
  • Provide counselling services to individuals, couples, and families.
  • Assess client needs, determine eligibility for internal programs or funding streams, and connect clients with appropriate community resources when needed.
  • Maintain timely and accurate clinical documentation, including progress notes, reports, letters of support, and other required records.
  • Co-facilitate individual and group sessions for the Partner Assault Response Program in accordance with the Ministry of the Attorney General requirements.
  • Participate in community activities and agency initiatives as required.

Qualifications and requirements

  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, or
  • Bachelor of Social Work or Psychology; or
  • College diploma in Social Service Work with at least five years of relevant clinical counselling experience.
  • Registration, or eligibility for registration, with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers or the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario.
  • Professional liability insurance.
  • Bilingual fluency in French and English is required.
  • Ability to balance clinical responsibilities, documentation, and collaboration in a community-based counselling setting.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • A vulnerable sector criminal record check is required.
  • This is an on-site position based at Timmins Family Counselling Centre.

Additional experience that would be helpful

  • Experience supporting clients impacted by trauma, intimate partner violence, sexual     violence, anxiety, depression, relationship concerns, or family stressors.
  • Experience providing services to youth 12 and older, couples, and families.
  •  Knowledge of short-term, solution-focused, trauma-informed, and strengths-based approaches.
  •  Experience working in a non-profit, community-based organization.
