Position: Quality Control Technician
Job Type: Seasonal / Full-Time / Camp

Who are we?
Takwata Builders LP is a wholly owned Taykwa Tagamou Nation (TTN) business specializing in civil earthworks projects.
TTN is a Cree First Nation located in Northern Ontario in the Cochrane District along the Abitibi River. TTN is asignatory of Treaty 9, a member of Mushkegowuk Council and Nishnawbe Aski Nation.
Takwata Builders was developed to serve mines and large-scale construction projects within their traditional territory.
Takwata Builders owns and operates a large fleet of earthwork equipment including excavators, dozers, loaders, and rock trucks. Takwata Builders senior personnel have an extensive resume in tailings pond construction, bulk excavation, ponds and ditching, and any earthworks project big or small.

Job Summary/Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Representing the company in a professional, positive manner when dealing with internal and external personnel as well as ensure quality control standards are met.
  • Perform inspections to ensure product quality.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members and demonstrate a high level of motivation and self-drive.
  • Communicate all information provided by laboratory regarding QC sampling and testing of aggregate materials with sieve analysis.
  • Maintaining daily records of all test data.
  • Effectively communicating with field staff and production personnel to receive and provide valuable information.
  • Collect detailed sample information, including locations, site activities for materials sampled and tested and keep a daily journal/log.
  • Promote, execute, and adhere to the company’s safety program, and encourage all employees, sub-contractors, and consultants to adopt safety as a culture.
  • Performing routine quality assessments on incoming materials and outgoing services and products.
  • Looking through plans, blueprints, and specifications to understand the design requirements of products.
  • Measuring product dimensions, examining the functionality of products, and comparing the final products to see if standards are met.
  • Recommending product improvements and changes to the production processes to improve quality.
  • Documenting inspection findings and completing detailed reports and performance records.
  • Educating the production team on quality control processes, concerns, and standards of product quality.
  • Maintaining a healthy and safe working environment by complying with legal regulations
  • Additional duties as assigned.
  • Documenting and reporting product or service quality levels.
  • Developing and implementing standards for inspection.
  • Developing a workflow for product inspection.
  • Following up with the appropriate channels when mistakes are found (Takwata’s Superintendent and Management Team only).


Qualifications/Requirements:

  • ACI Certification (preferred)
  • Two-year Engineering Technology diploma, or equivalent experience in a Quality Control position in a labor-intensive environment/mining environment considered an asset.
  • Must have valid driver's license.
  • Thorough understanding of quality control standards and testing techniques.
  • Physical stamina to stand for long periods of time and the ability to use specialized tools and machinery to test products.
  • Excellent math and computer skills necessary for measuring, calibrating, and calculating specifications.
  • In-depth understanding to interpret blueprints, technical documents, and manuals to ensure that products meet the standards.
  • Keen eye for details, thoroughness, and accuracy while performing a task.
  • Problem-solving mentality and a results-driven approach.
  • Ability to use quality testing machines, tools, and systems.
  • Ability to assume responsibility and communicate effectively with others and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills.
  • Understanding of standard concepts, practices, and procedures in the quality control inspection field.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to proactively and clearly convey important information to the Takwata Superintendent and Management Team.
  • Proficiency in reading technical data and specifications.
  • Able to work rotations and camp site job.
  • Able to work in extreme elements (outdoor weather conditions, vibration, noise, uneven terrain, and varying conditions).
  • Able to work substantial hours in field walking, standing, sometimes on uneven terrain.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and guidelines for construction sites considered an asset.
  • Ability to cope with production pressures and prioritise safety.
  • Able and comfortable with repetitive tasks.
  • Lifting/carrying heavy equipment (50-100 lbs), and able to know when to ask for help.
  • Proficient in Office 365 programs/platform.
  • Responsible for communicating any information changes to the Human Resource Coordinator (driver’s license, address, etc.).
  • Working alongside constructor’s engineers.
  • Must be in full Personal Protective Equipment
