This program creates space for recent Indigenous graduates from a College or University program to gain valuable work experience in the field of Indigenous law. This position will be a one-year term contract, located in Sioux Lookout, reporting to the Area Director, with the following goals;
• advancing legal education about Indigenous peoples, rights, and colonial histories.
• the implementation of Indigenous justice through recognition of Aboriginal and Treaty rights; and
• the promotion of Indigenous laws and legal systems
Qualifications:
• A University or college graduate who has graduated within the last three years from an accredited college or university;
• Must be a first full-time employment opportunity in the candidate’s field of study;
• Professional and detail-oriented;
• Have excellent written communication skills;
• Excellent problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Responsibilities:
• Conduct legal research and prepare memo’s and / or position papers
• Organize and assist with implementation of educational programming and clinic days
• Clerical duties, such as answering phones, monitoring email, data entry
• First point of contact and greeter for walk in clients and visitors
• Referring clients to appropriate resources and referrals, internal and external
Location: Sioux Lookout, ON
Closing Date: January 29, 2021
Position: Full-time and 35 hours per week – 1 Year Term
Salary: $40,000 - $45,000
