FAMILY COURT SUPPORT/ANTI-HUMAN TRAFFICKING OUTREACH WORKER-Internal/External posting

FULL TIME CONTRACT UNTIL MARCH 2024

 

Timmins & Area Women in Crisis (TAWC) is a dynamic, community-based feminist organization providing services related to intimate partner abuse and sexual violence to women and their children in the Timmins area.  TAWC works within an integrated feminist, anti-racist, anti-oppression framework. The agency is working towards expanding services to include anti-human trafficking supports for rural and remote communities in Northeastern Ontario.

 

TAWC is currently looking for an innovative woman to join our team in the capacity of Family Court Support/Anti-Human Trafficking Outreach Worker to join the Indigenous Anti-Human Trafficking Team working at Timmins & Area Women in Crisis.

 

Main Responsibilities:

·       Participate in outreach initiatives to promote programs and services (especially anti-human trafficking-related) in schools, libraries, and/or other community spaces

·       Orient women with Family and Criminal Court procedures and processes

·       Arrange for and/or attend court and legal appointments with women as necessary

·       Assist women with legal forms

·       Remain current on legislation pertaining to Family and Criminal Law

·       Co-facilitate community education and awareness sessions

·       Accompany and advocate for clients and TAWC on issues of human trafficking, sexual and domestic violence

·       Link women to appropriate community referrals

·       Provide risk assessments and the development of safety plans related to a woman’s unique situations

·       Complete various administrative and reporting tasks such as database case notes, etc.

·       Participate in agency and community events  

·       Travel to remote and rural communities in Northern Ontario to provide outreach and court services for Indigenous survivors of human trafficking

Qualifications:

·       Post-secondary degree/diploma in a relevant field and/or equivalent experience

·       Excellent understanding of violence against women and women’s rights/issues

·       Demonstrated skills and experience working from an integrated feminist anti-racism anti-oppression framework

·       Specialized training in anti-human trafficking, sexual and domestic violence, trauma, mental health, and substance use issues

·       Thorough understanding of the issues facing Indigenous Peoples and CommunitiesInTra

·       Understanding of the social service sector and provision of non-profit service to the community, including Indigenous-specific services

·       Understanding of trauma, mental health, and substance abuse issues as it pertains to human trafficking

·       Experience navigating the Family Court and Criminal Court Systems

·       Working knowledge of Legal Aid, Child and Family Services Act, Family Responsibility Office, and Landlord/Tenant, Immigration, and Criminal Acts

·       Demonstrated crisis intervention and conflict resolution abilities

·       Sound judgement, problem-solving, advocacy, and mediation skills

·       Excellent interpersonal skills including communication, cooperation, networking and group/meeting facilitation

·       Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment

·       Ability to organize and carry out programming, groups, activities, and events

·       Must be able to travel to remote and rural locations in Ontario (Remote travel: 2-3 days, 4 times per year; Rural travel: 1-2 days, 4 times per year) as part of the Anti-Human Trafficking Mobile Team

·       Must possess a valid Class G driver’s licence and own a reliable vehicle with appropriate insurance coverage

 

TAWC has a COVID-19 Vaccination Policy that requires individuals to take part in COVID-19 vaccination programs recommended by Public Health, unless they are approved for a medical or human rights accommodation from TAWC. Compliance with this policy is mandatory for this position.

 

Hours of work: 35 hours per week
